Risk-drafting the United States of America

Imagine a map of the United States of America was transformed into a game of Risk, with each state as a territory, and that state’s total economic output corresponding with the number of armies it can produce. In which order would the states be drafted?

Imagine five players, so each each player will end up with ten states. Alaska is connected to Hawaii and Washington. Hawaii is connected to Alaska and California. Here’s how I think it would play out, in a snake draft.

  1. California
  2. New York
  3. Texas
  4. Illinois
  5. Florida
  6. Virginia
  7. Pennsylvania
  8. Georgia
  9. New Jersey
  10. Washington
  11. Arizona
  12. Ohio
  13. Tennessee
  14. Michigan
  15. North Carolina
  16. Maryland
  17. Indiana
  18. New Mexico
  19. Massachusetts
  20. Colorado

…

50. New Hampshire
