@eferreira23 says Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine ought to be on call to pop up from behind the center field monstrosity, playing “Conga”, for the first Marlins home run at the new park.

Had no idea James Dean was a founding member of Tom Henke’s Army.

Mark Buehrle brings attention to Miami's pitbull ban

I can’t be the first person to see this and think to himself: “But what about Pitbull? Is he banned, too?”

Prince Fielder, in front of Alan Trammell, wearing Chicago Cubs-branded Zubaz(!), a (matching?!) New York Giants t-shirt, Jordan VIes, and a Detroit Tigers cap, throwing a baseball.
This, and more great pics of young Prince at LobShots

Pedro Martinez talks about his time in Boston

Tangotiger picked out the best section:

As a matter of fact, that ’99 game when I came out hurt in Cleveland, I was supposed to pitch one inning just to hold them there, and I ended up pitching six complete innings. Nobody asked about it, because it looked good when we finally won it. But I went over my head, I went over everybody’s head. I went over Jimy Williams’ head. I went over the rules they had for me that night. I just took it upon me to do it, and I did it. I disobeyed what Jimy wanted to do. Jimy wanted to take me out. I said no. He didn’t want me to pitch at that time that I went in, and I said, ‘No, I want to go in.’ When it goes good, everything tends to be overlooked. When it goes wrong, it comes back to bite you.

[Jeff] Bagwell, once the voting members of the BBWAA realize that Justice Potter Stewart’s definition of pornography does not work for pinpointing steroid users, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

— Rany Jazayerli, making a salient point about Baseball Hall of Fame voting before getting on with a column about making trades.

Albert Pujols and MLB players' effective tax rates

Fantastic stuff from Eric Seidman of FanGraphs. He lays out exactly what the difference in effective tax rate is for a player signed to the “Los Angeles” Angels (of Anaheim) versus the Miami Marlins.
